Itineraries

Day 1

Marrakech – Telouet – Ait Ben Haddou - Dades Gorge

We will pick you up from your Riad in Marrakech at 9:00 am and start travelling to Ouarzazate via the Tichka Pass (2260m), the highest road pass in Morocco. The panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and magnificent landscapes, peppered by small Berber villages typical of the region. We will visit the Kasbah of Telouet which was occupied by the Pacha Glaoui during his reign and is frequented by Moroccan travellers. It sits in the village of Telouet nestled outside the Onilla Valley. The Harem and reception hall areas give one a good idea of the former luxury in which El Glaoui lived, as well as a look at the Andalusian style of decorating. However, the older parts of the Kasbah are in complete ruins, making it difficult to see properly. Walking through the crumbling passageways is like walking through a maze and some have gotten lost exploring the dilapidated Kasbah. Next we continue to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Ben Haddou. This Kasbah is perhaps the most impressive and well-preserved fortress cities in Morocco, which the Moroccan Government itself jumped on the bandwagon in 1994 to rehabilitate the Kasbah in order to preserve the cultural and national heritage. The Kasbahs were a major stop for camel caravans carrying salt through the Sahara and returning with gold, silver and slaves.
After Lunch, continue towards the city of Ouarzazate, city known as the doorway to the Sahara Desert. Visit Kasbah Taourirt and then we start travelling via the Road of Thousand Kasbahs to Skoura Oasis lined by many palm groves and the Rose Valley known for the production of Moroccan roses. Acres of Persian roses are grown and harvested here to create rose water, creams and soaps prized throughout Morocco and the world. At Boumalen Dades, we can take a turn to a route heading to a spectacular gorge, Todra Gorge (600 feet high) to enjoy a picturesque view of the river valleys. After a short stop, we head back to Boumalen Dades, taking the smaller route which will lead us to the Dades Gorge. We will pass the strange rock creation of Tamnalt Hills, a bizarre rock resembling monkey feet. We will travel to the top of the Dades Gorge, a deep gorge of red and mauve rock towering above the road. Overnight at Dades Gorge.

Day 2

Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Merzouga

We make our way towards Todra Gorge, Touroug Erfoud and visit the fossils center and the ancient city of Rissani, the place from which Arab dynasties first came to Morocco. This city thrived from the 8th to the 14th centuries thanks to the caravan routes of the kingdom of Sijilmassa, Alawite dynasty when they took power, as well as Moulay er Rachid. It is a cultural destination in Morocco boasting beautiful examples of early Moroccan architectural styles and noteworthy palaces and temples. Later in the afternoon, we head towards Merzouga, the doorway into the desert where your guide and camels will be waiting for you to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara and watch the beautiful sunset. Overnight in the Nomad tent, under a night sky full of stars.

Day 3

Merzouga - Ouarzazate - Marrakech

You will wake up to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, possibly the best moment of the Merzouga desert. Make your way after breakfast towards Ouarzazate on the way back to Marrakech
